Working Title: Master of Awesomeness

Concept Statement:

This crazy adventure follows the nerdy overworked office worker Hayden while he is trying to figure out where he has woken up. The goal is to progress from checkpoint to checkpoint, jumping your way to becoming more than just a regular joe and becoming the master of awesomeness. Will you stand up to the challenge of fighting the terrifying monsters or will you cave under pressure and submit to defeat? 

Genre

My game will be a 2D platformer that is filled with hard platforming segments and traps to fool the player to make sure they die over and over again. 

Concept Creation and Influences

Battletoads

Battletoads created by the company rare in 1991, is about three toads named, Rash, Zitz, and Pimple. Battletoads, is a platformer beat 'em up that is famous because of its difficulty, I’ve always loved how Battletoads is a hard game as it engages the player to concentrate and to sink hours into perfecting it's frustratingly difficult but fun levels. 

Super meat boy

Super meat boy is a fast-paced platformer about Meat Boy who is a cube-shaped character who is trying to save his cute bandage girlfriend Bandage Girl from the notoriously evil scientist Dr Fetus. The gameplay of Super Meat Boy is precariously jumping to avoid sharp objects that can slice Meat Boy instantly.  

I wanna be the guy

I wanna be the guy is an insanely hard platformer created by Michael "Kayin" O'Reilly. Traps will be put across the different scenarios that you must conquer with the goal of killing you repeatedly. If the level design wasn't complex enough, your primary character is also rather weak. The tiniest contact of any scenario piece will put an end to his existence, forcing you to return to the last stage in which the game was saved. I Wanna Be the Guy is a fun and memorable platform game. It's one of those difficulties that you can brag about once you've conquered. Of course, conquering this obstacle will need a lot of blood, sweat, and tears.

Concept Creation process

The concept for this game came from my love of games that are frustratingly difficult and that require you to heavily focus and die over and over again to figure out how to conquer each level. Resilience is a great thing to be taught and there is no better way to be taught something than while playing video games hence why I’m wanting to make my game hard to teach the audience that in life it’s okay to fail and that failure is the reason why we succeed and to get back up and overcome the toughest challenges. 

Audience and Competitive Analysis

The intended audience for this game is people who like platformer games, as well as people who tend not to give up when things get hard. The controls will be pretty simple but the gameplay will not be forgiving. The intended audience will be teens and middle-aged human beings. 

My game compared to other hard platformers like Super Meat Boy and I wanna be the guy will dial down the difficulty to make it more open to casual players rather than people who can sink hours into perfecting the game mechanics. 

Game Treatment and Concept Art

You play as the nerdy overworked office worker Hayden, you work every single day and do more hours than supposed to, your work colleagues think you’re a loser and that you will always be one and never stand out. One night Hayden goes to sleep like every other night but this time wakes up in a mysterious place and hears a mysterious voice telling you that your life as an average joe is over and that you have the chance to become something much more important which is the Master of Awesomeness. If you want to become the Master of Awesomeness you will need to travel your way through this mysterious land conquering the harsh platforming segments to finally get the respect you deserve!

Concept Art 

My goal for this project is to design levels similarly to games such as Super Meat Boy and I wanna be the guy as those levels are full of challenges that can kill you in an instant if you do not focus properly. I’ll be trying my best to make the player character using pixel art as that will suit the style of my game.
